John Lapsley
| Air Marshal Sir John Lapsley (deceased) Sir John Lapsley joined the Royal Air Force in 1935 and in 1937 was posted to No.32 Sqn. He flew the Gladiator and Hurricane in command of No.274 Sqn in Malta in 1941, but was shot down over Tobruk on 19th April 1941 and injured. After recovery in England he became an instructor before taking command in 1943 of No.125 Wing flying the Typhoon. He had scored 11 victories in the war. Post-war he took on a number of senior roles, retiring in 1973. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Force Cross, the KBE and CB. He died on 21st November 1995. |
