Ken Tout | Lance Corporal Ken Tout OBE Joining the service in 1942, he went on to land at Gold Beach on D-Day +8 with the 1st Northamptonshire Yeomanry. He served on Sherman Fireflies, 75s and Stuart (Honey) tanks and was involved in the night march which saw Michael Wittmann knocked out. After serving in occupied Europe was posted to Palestine in late 1945. Ken Tout worked for many years overseas with voluntary organizations, including Oxfam, HelpAge International and the Salvation Army, and latterly as a consultant to the United Nations Unit on ageing. He has a PhD in gerontology and in 1994 was awarded the OBE for services to the elderly mainly in developing countries. |
